This article came across my facebook feed this morning and I'd highly recommend a read if you're like me and struggle with unhealthy self criticism. Or even if you think you don't. There is a ton of great advice packed into a relatively short read.
From the article:
"Not unlike the culprits who planted the seed, we mistake self-shaming for motivation when it’s actually the opposite. Self-shaming is demotivating and demoralizing and no positive change will result."
I self-criticise but don't feel self-shamed or demoralised. Shall read the article anyway, especially after my analysis of the couple of videos I shared last week got "don't be so hard on yourself" comments...perhaps some perspective is timely.
ReplyDeleteThanks ☺☺☺
You are always far too hard on yourself, you're a lovely rider with gorgeous horses :)
DeleteGreat article! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! :)
DeleteI do this a lot, thanks for sharing will definitely take a look at the article!
ReplyDeleteI think equestrians are really good at beating themselves up unnecessarily.
Deletei've always tried to live by the "shame is not a motivator" mantra ... but. it's hard. this is a timely reminder for me. thanks!
ReplyDeleteI was actually surprised, some of the things I tell myself thinking I'm making myself a better person, are actually unhealthy shame-y things.
DeleteGreat article! Always a good reminder :)
ReplyDeleteI know I've mentioned this to other bloggers, but a book I've read over and over is called "Build Complete Confidence With Horses". It talks a lot about re-labeling feelings and identifying strengths. Really wonderful book, lots of pretty pictures (a big plus in my mind), and some great tips.
Thank you for the recommendation - will definitely add it to my list next time I order books
DeleteThanks so much for sharing! I needed to read that.
ReplyDeleteIt found me at the right time too, glad you liked it :)
DeleteThis is excellent, it was a great reminder :)
