All Moved

Into our temporary accommodations for the week! Fingers crossed, they settled in just fine. Ginger even remembers the area and seems happy to visit the old 'hood.

In keeping with our drama theme this week, there were questions over who was trailering who (and with who and when) so I opted to stay out of it and find my own way. It's only about 8 miles barn to barn  through a fairly direct hydro easement, so not a huge ride really, when one has the time. I was planning to ride one and pony the other, but G wanted to come along for the walk and I felt mean riding while he walked, so we both ended up just walking the horses over. I would sound so dedicated if I said I walked my horses for 3 hours to get to a clinic, but seriously it was a beautiful day, the trails were dry, and we were all happy to get out for some exercise. I'm extra glad I didn't book any trailering!

It was a nice afternoon well spent. We made Bridget pack lunch and stopped lakeside for a picnic. When we arrived at the barn we're staying at, there were two big side by side paddocks available for the girls. They happily settled in for dinner and seemed really relaxed - no running or calling even when the resident horses got a little excited about the newcomers. Trailering them over would have certainly been more time efficient and better practice for an away show, but call me crazy, I'd walk them again anytime.

Actual riding and pictures tomorrow, I promise.

  1. Hat sounds like a fab low key way to get from a to b & I too always favour walking when I can. Gets me fresh air & exercise - nothing better seeing as i don't do any other exercise lolz
I am so glad they settled right in like the good girls they are. I hope you have a great time at the clinic and hope to steal some tips from your reports ☺

    1. I love walking too - we go out for hours on end sometimes and always feel so good after. Thanks for the good wishes and I will certainly be posting a full report :)

  2. ha - that's awesome!! and actually, now that i think about it - an easy and enjoyable 8 mile ride seems like the perfect way to make sure the girls settle in calmly and quietly :)

glad it went well and hope you have a fabulous time!!

    1. It really worked, although today they're feeling a little more energetic and herd bound! Still, it was nice to get them there last night and not have to worry

    1. If I had the time I'd do it more often for Ginger - it really helped her settle in and after numerous times of pony refusing to eat or drink and getting stressed that's huge for her!

  4. Great idea! The extra exercise probably helped them chill out before arriving too :)

  5. That is great on so many levels! Mostly I am impressed that G wants to spend time with the horses. I can't get Nick to the barn unless we're having a party!

    1. G is a big animal lover and likes my girls, but honestly if I said I was selling the horses tomorrow he'd be sad, but ok with it - he's more interested in the hiking/walking than the actual horse time and grumbled plenty about having to 'tow' bridget yesterday :)
