August Wrap Up

The month flew by, with a lot of annual leave taken (fun), travel (also fun) and two different surgeries to fix the mess 20 year old me's dentist made of my wisdom teeth extractions (not fun).

I had planned that the horses would be put to the side for the month. I even arranged for others to take over pony care for about 2 weeks of the month. It felt more than a little odd to not be in control of pony feeding and schedules, but it was a nice break. Honestly between the travel and time out for the dental stuff it made sense to just plan it that way and not have any worries.

I still collected media this month that I feel like I could share so we can start September fresh.

Why yes, the separate diet for Buck is going swimmingly. These two seem like they are going to be best buds for life

tourist-ing, real estate researching

Closer to home. There is actually a xc course down there Bridget and I visited a few times. I've seen they're offering lessons and clinics again and it's only a ferry ride away...a plan for next summer?

Installing steering needs to come before xc planning tho. The steering is improving, but he's one who pushes into things as a default so it's a work in progress, especially given I've maybe done something with him only two or three times this month

The giant willow tree in their field had a huge branch come down while I was away. The to do list doesn't take vacations.

A book and a lawn chair seemed like a nice idea after surgery, the reality was I have very annoying horses intent on stealing anything not attached to me and it's much more peaceful on the other side of the fence.

plotting shenanigans

The other morning I got woken up very early by a ton of noise, and there was an actual bear fight happening outside my window. Only in BC! The nature documentaries make it sound like you don't mess with momma bears, but this time there was another very angry bear that eventually treed the mom and her two cubs in the backyard. It all seemed to end fine after a lot of noise, but now this week the mom bear seems to have decided our fenced backyard is a safe space and she keeps leaving her babies here. Not complaining, since the second of the two planned surgeries knocked me down hard and it's been fun watching them outside the window (although I've stopped leaving the bedroom window open at night!) I didn't have being an informal bear cub daycare on the bingo card for August, but here we are. The horses don't seem to mind, and even our very territorial house cat is unbothered, so maybe it's been going on longer than I know about.

Baby 1

Baby 2. They spend all their time in the tree outside my window until their mom comes back to get them. They've listened to 3.5 seasons of Ted Lasso with me this week, lol

Mom

I think that about catches us up. I've got a lot of work to catch up on, but have another week off work mid September. I hope to get into a semi regular schedule with Buck this fall. The mornings are already starting to feel a lot cooler and the horses are more energetic and seem like they're noticing a change of season coming.
